What we do

IAgrE - Your Passport to Professionalism

We are a registered charity working for the public benefit through bringing together academics, practitioners and industry to share knowledge and promote professionalism in the advancement and application of technology in the land-based sector.  We are professional membership organisation with grades for all those working in, or with an interest in agriculture and the environment.  Employers recognise the value of IAgrE membership and the independent verification of education, training and experience that it provides.  We promote professionalism amongst our members through professional qualifications with the Engineering Council and the Society for the Environment.

The Profession

Land-based engineering represents a wide appliance of science, engineering and technology.  Topic areas include: soil and water management, power and machinery, forestry, horticulture, amenity, environment, precision farming, animal production, biosource and land use.

Aims and Objectives

Established in 1938 the prime remit of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE) was then, as it is now, to:

  1. Promote agricultural engineering as a profession.
  2. Direct and apply the sources of energy in nature for the sustainable use and convenience of man in the adaptation and application of materials and mechanical methods for the best development of land use for agriculture, forestry and other purposes
  3. Promote good practice in all applications of technology across the land-based sector.

Our objectives are, as ever, to continue with the drive to increase and broaden the membership base and raise the profile of the Institution.
