Registered Environmental Practitioner

The Society for the Environment (SocEnv) is the body responsible for the registration of professionals working in the environmental sector.  Established in 2004, SocEnv aims to lead on the development and regulation of environmental practitioners and to be a respected voice in environmental affairs and sustainable development.  SocEnv provides an inclusive platform in which environmentalists are able to debate the issues that will help society move towards sustainability.  The awarding of professional qualifications is carried out through its licenced members, such as the IAgrE.

The Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP) is a new professional registration recognising the competence, skills and commitment of professionals working to enhance or protect the environment.  It provides an opportunity to highlight your capabilities to employers, clients and the public, as well as being a personal career achievement.  The need for these professional qualifications recognises the importance that government, regulators and industry place on excellence in environmental practice.  Read our Brochure here.

An REnvP working in the agricultural and land-based sector may have job roles including:

·         Agronomist/Agricultural Advisers

·         Drainage Specialists / Contractors

·         Environmental Managers/Advisors

·         Conservation Managers/Advisors

·         Forest/Woodland Managers

·         Soil Scientists/Advisors

·         Precision Farming Specialists

·         Agricultural/Horticulturalists

·         Energy Engineers

·         Waste Management Engineers

If you are interested in obtaining a professional qualification through IAgrE and are not a member, apply for instant membership at Affiliate Grade and indicate which qualification(s) you are interested in.

Requirements for Registrants

An REnvP applies environmental knowledge, understanding and skills to protect and enhance the environment in a sustainable way. They are committed to planning, implementing, evaluating and supporting good environmental practices in their work.

REnvP registrants are expected to have acquired a level of knowledge equivalent to a QCF level 5 qualification (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) and hold relevant working experience to meet the 12 REnvP competences.

Don't feel you have the qualifications?  …then don't worry, our experienced assessors can provide guidance on additional routes to REnvP registration based on vocational experience.

Applicants will need to demonstrate knowledge of, competence in and engagement with sustainable environmental management and development. Download the competencies from the download section on this page.  They will also agree to comply with the Society's Code of Conduct & Ethics (also found in the downloads on this page) and Continuing Professional Development.
