Landwards provides technical, market-orientated news and reviews of innovative developments in engineering and technology for practical application in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Environment and Amenity. The readership has a considerable degree of influence in the design, selection and use of equipment and infrastructure for the land-based industries, both in the UK and internationally.
Readers’ expertise covers a broad technical and administrative spectrum in:
Landwards is a quarterly magazine, published in March, June, September and December by the IAgrE, the professional body for those scientists, engineers, technologists and students in the landbased engineering sector. The magazine is distributed free to all members and on subscription to individuals and to a substantial number of libraries at technical and research centres worldwide.
In addition to the paper edition of Landwards, occasional papers will be published, in an electronic format only, as a supplement to Landwards. Known as Landwards e-Xtra, a brief synopsis will appear in Landwards as and when such papers are published.
Types of material
A wide range of material is acceptable – for example:
Style
Authors should follow the layout and style of recent issues of the magazine. The optimum length of text is 1500-2000 words but longer articles may be appropriate on some subjects and will be considered.
Shorter articles or items of news and comment are also relevant. Some illustrations -figures and tables and two or three photographs are desirable. The name and affiliation of the author should be given on a preliminary page or at the end of the text. Authors’ photographs (good quality, head and shoulders) are requested. An introduction and summary along with sub-headings in the text are helpful but not essential – such elements are generally prepared at the editing stage.
llustrations
Images should be supplied as TIF, EPS or JPG (minimum resolution 300 dpi at size to be used). Note also that a good colour image may sometimes be suitable for the front cover illustration.
Text and references
Text should be with double line spacing. References in the text should be given as the name of the author followed by the year of publication. Any Reference List should be in alphabetical order. All units should conform to the SI system. Text should be in text only, rich text format or as an MS Word document. Fonts must be embedded.
Refereed papers
Scientific papers may be given the opportunity of being refereed before publication if the author so requests and the paper contains a record of original work or presents an original commentary not previously published elsewhere. On publication, the paper will be listed as a refereed paper. Preference is given to technical articles for a professional readership.
Authors of research papers are encouraged to submit their manuscripts to suitable peer reviewed journals such as Biosystems Engineering.
Copyright
Submission of a paper for publication implies the transfer of copyright from the author to the Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE).
Copy should be submitted at the start of February, May, August and November. For further details or to submit copy, please contact the editor of Landwards:
