Next steps for waste and recycling policy in the UK
Baroness McIntosh of Pickering, former Chair, Environment, Food and Rural Affair

Timed to follow a year on from the introduction of the EU Circular Economy package of reforms, this seminar will discuss the next steps for implementing measures to improve resource efficiency and the future for the waste sector in the UK.
Delegates will assess strategies for changing consumer behaviours and the effects of the rollout in 2016 of minimum pricing for plastic bags in England, alongside ways in which sustainability can be embedded at all levels of the supply chain. Further sessions will examine the latest developments in energy from waste, the progress towards increasing recycling rates on a local and commercial level, and innovative business models in the circular economy.
We are delighted to include keynote presentations from Julius Langendorff, Deputy Head of Unit, Waste Management & Secondary Materials, Directorate-General for the Environment, European Commission; Andrew Bird, Chair, Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee; Gabriella Pieraccini, Head of Zero Waste, The Scottish Government; Dr Andy Rees, Head of Waste Strategy Branch, Welsh Government; Herman van der Meij, Managing Director, Viridor Resource Management; Adrian Hawkes, Policy Director, Valpak and a speaker confirmed from Renewable Energy Association.
