South East Midlands - Summer Visit - Low input systems on a controlled traffic and a conventional farm

Part 1
Meet at 3 pm at Lodge Farm, Chicksands Shefford, Beds SG17 5QB, hosted by Adrian Baker
Lodge Farm (F.B. Parrish & Son) grow cereals, aliums and potatoes and have been operating a seasonal (root crops) and full controlled traffic farming (CTF) system for around 10 years. They have recently purchased a customised onion harvester that works wholly within their permanent traffic lanes. Ploughing is no longer practised on the farm and tillage inputs are decreasing year on year.

Part 2
We will depart for Manor Farm, Butterfield Green Road, Luton, Beds LU2 8DE at around 16.45 to be hosted by Lionel Shaw.
Lionel has gradually moved to a system of no-till on a conventionally managed farm to grow a range of combinable crops and we will see some fields that have been in no-till for 10 years.

In order that we can judge viability for the visits, could you please let Tim know by 1st May if you plan to come. (He will be unavailable in the middle part of May)

Part 3
Following the visit to Manor Farm, those who wish, can congregate at 7 pm for a meal at The Raven, Hexton, Hitchin, Herts SG5 3JB.
Meals will need to be booked in advance and menu choices should be sent to Tim Chamen by 1st May latest. Payment will be due on the night, either in cash to Tim or directly to The Raven. Any cancellations to Tim by 18th May.

In order that we can judge viability for the visits, could you please let Tim know by 1st May if you plan to come. (He will be unavailable in the middle part of May)
