Lunchtime Lecture - Richard Robinson "Ideas"

Lunchtime Lecture - Richard Robinson

Some ideas that didn't get going and some that are still going strong

A Northamptonshire farmer’s son I started driving tractors when 4 years old, with varying degrees of skill, using a New Holland Super 68 baler when 12 and combines 2 years later.

I was the first Engineering trainee at NH and was sent to Europe, Africa, New Zealand and Australia testing machines.

Eight years later I moved to Watveare Overseas in Devon, initially responsible for service on Fahr equipment, but later took on the Deutz tractor business. After five years, including a move to Wiltshire, redesigning cabs and pickup hitches, I started what has become Autoguide Equipment.

We produced kit for most manufacturers/importers, concentrating on attachments that they were not interested in making - hitches, mower decks, trailer braking systems etc.

I joined the IAgrE whilst at NH and was very surprised, not to say flattered, to become President and subsequently Hon Fellow. I still sit on the Awards panel and am a Trustee of the Douglas Bomford Trust with special responsibility for our Arkwright scholars
