Course description:
ALC has a formal role in the planning system in England and Wales and is designed to prevent the loss of our best and most versatile land in line with the principles of sustainable development. This training course, which has been launched with the support of Defra, offers a unique opportunity to learn how to conduct and/or evaluate an agricultural land classification survey.
Who is it for:
It is suitable for environmental or planning consultants, soil scientists, chartered surveyors, land valuers and planning control staff. It is the only course available of its kind and has been designed taught by agricultural land classification (ALC) experts from Natural England and The Welsh Government.
By the end of the two day course delegates will learn:
- about how the ALC system has developed over time, its underlying principles and its role within the planning system - the WHAT, WHY and WHEN of ALC
- all the details of how land is graded - the HOW of ALC
- what a report should contain in order to be verified by the Natural England and Welsh Government statutory consultees on planning applications involving soils and agriculture
- how to present ALC results as an expert witness
As well as taught sessions, a group ALC grading desk exercise will be carried out to apply what has been learned.
The course is BASIS CPD credited and run by professional trainers of each of the subjects. In addition, a certificate is issued on successful completion of the course.
