For the past 30 years I have been responsible for developing the application of technology in agriculture. I have worked with many farmers across numerous farming sectors all over the world, to deliver and install technology systems that increase the efficiency of food production.

Charlie Nicklin — CEO

Charlie Nicklin has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers since October 2020. A Chartered Engineer with more than 32 years of industry experience, he has built an extensive career in the design, development and manufacture of construction and agricultural machinery.

Prior to joining the Institution, Charlie spent almost 25 years with JCB, where he held a number of senior engineering roles, including Chief Engineer for Backhoe Loaders, Chief Engineer for the Fastrac tractor range, and Engineering Lead for Loadall agricultural products.

Growing up on a farm, Charlie's passion for agricultural engineering began at an early age. He studied Agricultural Engineering at Reaseheath College in Cheshire before continuing his studies at Harper Adams University in Shropshire.

Outside work, Charlie enjoys family life and keeps busy renovating his Georgian farmhouse. He is also a keen enthusiast of vintage tractors and competition ploughing

Mark Moore — Immediate Past President

I joined Massey Ferguson in 1990 as a technical training instructor from Cranfield University, where I obtained a 1st Class Honour's degree in Agricultural Technology and Management.

In 1991 I assumed responsibility for developing the MF yield-mapping programme, which evolved into precision farming in the mid 1990's. At the same time, I started a part time Ph.D.: The accuracy of yield maps and their subsequent use in crop management, which I completed in 1997. My agricultural engineering and agronomy skills have led to my current AGCO role of Director, Government Affairs. The aim is to increase awareness amongst policy makers on the opportunities to increase food production while mitigating climate change.

Philip Pinn

Associate Member

Philip Pinn is from Framlingham in Suffolk and has family ties to Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He works in design and new machinery development at Timberwolf, having graduated from Harper Adams with an MEng in 2022.

As a member of the IAgrE, he sits on Council and Executive representing generally younger associate grade members and also represents the Institution on the Royal Academy of Engineering's Early Career Engineers Professional Engineering Committee (ECE PEC). Chartership is his next major career goal.

Away from the desk, he runs a small groundskeeping business and operates (& operates on) farm machinery. Real downtime means welding a Land Rover or getting out to a senior YFC meeting.
