Lunchtime Lecture - IAgrE and AfroAgEng: Agricultural Engineering in Africa

Alastair Taylor former IAgrE CEO discusses IAgrE and AfroAgEng: Agricultural Engineering in Africa

Activities to Grow Agricultural Engineering to Transform Africa - A Call to Action

Former IAgrE CEO involved the Institution with a Royal Academy of Engineering project called the African Catalyst. As part of this we supported the Pan African Society for Agricultural Engineering or AfroAgEng as it is called. The ambition is to grow the Agricultural Engineering Profession across Africa. Since leaving IAgrE, Alastair has continued to support the AfroAgEng and has recently completed a report on Agricultural Engineering in Africa and a “Call to Action” to grow the profession as a means of sustaining the food supply across the continent. This is not dissimilar to the IAgrE’s own response to the Bedding report back in 2012. Think the same ten years on and for the African Context.

Alastair will share the story and showcase some of the challenges facing Africa together with some of the potential solutions. There is a lot to hope for here and every chance that the application of Agricultural Engineering and associated technology might leapfrog some countries from third to first world in terms of Agri-tech.

The event will be held on Zoom - emails will be sent to members with the login details.
