Charles Bentley BSc(Hons) Agric, MSc AgEng, MIAgrE, CEnv MBPR, FQA - Technical Director (Farm Infrastructure) ADAS Agriculture and Land Management, will be looking at the challenges of expanding or upgrading farm infrastructure, (particularly dairying) in relation to planning and environmental aspects – ammonia emissions, nutrient neutrality etc
Charles has sent us a brief pen portrait:
"My career has been very limited in some respects – other than a MAFF survey of slurry storage and handling facilities in 1990, professionally I’ve only ever worked for ADAS – joining a year after leaving Silsoe and working on pretty much anything related to slurry, starting as the last trainee mechanisation officer ADAS ever appointed and ending up as Technical Director. My role is effectively leading and supporting colleagues in ADAS to deliver on-farm advice on infrastructure, pollution control, manure and nutrient management, for government, corporate and private commercial (farmers and landowners) clients.
I am currently leading work to revise the CIRIA guidance on manure and silage storage infrastructure, providing advice to Welsh Government on the Control of Agricultural Pollution Regulations and assisting a pig unit with manure use aspects of a planning appeal.
This informal career description does however capture the essence of much of what we do – 34 years of trying to keep dairy farmers out of trouble with the EA without spending too much money."
