Melvin Johnson IEng MIAgrE

I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to register as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) through the ‘Career Learning Assessment’ route.

I have spent all of my working life in Land-Based Engineering, 10 years as a service engineer for an Massey Ferguson distributor in Shropshire and 30+ years in Land-Based Engineering Education at Reaseheath College Cheshire and latterly with LANTRA.

From my experiences during these 40+ years I have been able to evidence (with the help IAgrE mentors) all of the criteria needed to be recognised by the Engineering council as an IEng.

The process of registration via the ‘Career Learning route’ is very rigorous but fair and supportive. The IAgrE provided me with support from two excellent mentors to help with the application who were most helpful and I thank them both.

Being recognised this way by the Engineering Council and the IAgrE community has given me great personal satisfaction and has enhanced my credibility with the organisations I work and volunteer with.

I continue to support the quality assurance of our new Land-Based Engineering Apprenticeship Standards Assessment process with LANTRA and through this get the opportunity to meet many young people starting their careers in our exciting sector. 

I always reinforce the benefits of IAgrE registration and recognition with them and are now able to personally demonstrate the route available for entrants into our sector with good reputations to be recognised by; their peers, the IAgrE and the Engineering community more generally as  professional Incorporated Engineers who demonstrate standards, ethics and values needed to thrive in our ever changing industry.
