2016 Awards

The 2016 IAgrE Awards were this year held after the AGM & Council Meeting  hosted by JCB Landpower Ltd at Rocester

Citations for each award are available in the downloads section listed on the right.

The Honorary Fellowship Award - An Honorary Fellowship is the highest commendation awarded by the Institution.  It recognises outstanding service to both the Institution and to the Agricultural Engineering Profession.

The IAgrE Award Of Merit - The Award of Merit is made to a person distinguished by their work in agricultural science or engineering or one that has rendered outstanding service to the Institution.
The award went to: 

Ian Duff, MIAgrE, Northern Ireland Branch Ian is pictured recieving his award from new President Dr Robert Merrall, MIAgrE

IAgrE Award For Contribution To The Landbased Sector - This Award is made to IAgrE members who have made sustained contributions to the landbased sector throughout their career. This year's winner was:

Nick Tillett, MIAgrE   Nick was very pleased to receive his award and took the opportunity of thanking his colleagues i=and friends in IAgrE for their support, pictured here with President Rob Merrall

Ronald Knight was thrilled to be awarded this prize in acknowldgement of his lifetime's work restoring combine harvesters

Michael Dwyer Memorial Prize - The prize is to a mid-career engineer who has made outstanding progress in the agricultural engineering industry. The Institution is delighted that there were two winners this year:

Michael Dwyer Memorial Prize - The prize is to a mid-career engineer who has made outstanding progress in the agricultural engineering industry. The Institution is delighted that there were two winners this year:

Christopher Pett, General Manager at Mastenbroek was delighted to receive his award from President Rob Merrall

Branch & Group Meritorious Service Award - Made to members who have consistently rendered outstanding service to their Branch of the Institution or a Technical Group over a number of years, there were two awards this year:

Dave Tinker, FIAgrE - South East Midlands Branch - Dave works hard to promote links between IMechE and IAgrE and is integral to the work of the SEM Branch and was pleased to receive his award from Rob Merrall IAgrE President

Branch & Group Meritorious Service Award - Made to members who have consistently rendered outstanding service to their Branch of the Institution or a Technical Group over a number of years, there were two awards this year:

David Yates, MIAgrE - East Midlands Branch - David brought his wife and son to the Presentation and was delighted to receive his award from President Rob Merrall

Hugh McIlvenna, MIAgrE - Northern Ireland Branch - Hugh was thrilled to be awarded this acolade by his fellow members in NI.  He was unable to travel to the Awards presentation at JCB but was delighted when President Mark Kibblewhite went to the NI AGM to presnt him with his award.  He is pictured with Peter Frost after regailing the audience with a poem written for the event.

Douglas Bomford Paper Award - The Award is offered to the author or authors of a paper which, in the previous calendar year, was published in full in the Institution journals “Landwards” or “Biosystems Engineering”. At least one of the authors must be a member of the Institution. The winner of the Award this year, for his contribution to the paper “The effects of storage time and temperature on biogas production from dairy cow slurry” James D Browne, AIAgrE Stephen R Gilkinson, John P Frost, MIAgrE, Biosystems Engineering,Volume 129, January 2015, Pages 48-56, ISSN 1537-5110

Dr Browne is currently living in Ireland and was unable to collect the award in person however his colleague Dr Frost was able to accept the award on both their behalfs at the Northern Ireland Branch AGM in March (see picture with Hugh McIlvenna), where the President, Mark Kibblewhite was delighted to make the presentation.

IVEL Award - This award is made at the LAMMA Show to a new product that demonstrates the most positive contribution to the environment,  This year's IVEL Award went to Poclain Hydrauklics for their MHP20 and MHP27 hydraulic motors.

Student Awards

 

Johnson New Holland Trophy Paper Award - This trophy is awarded for the best final year project submitted as part of a First Degree, HND or HNC course in land based engineering. No award was made this year.

 

 

Student Project Award - This award is given to the best final year project submitted as part of a course leading to ND, NVQ Level 3, or similar qualification in land based engineering.  This year's award was made at LAMMA:

Cennydd Hughes, Coleg Sir Gar, for his project "Multi-purpose Log Splitter with adaptations for bead braker, filter crusher & Log-grab".  Emyr is pictured receiving his award from Alastair Taylor, IAgrE CEO (left).

IAgrE Safety Award - This new award has been established to encourage and recognise innovation in safe design or operation of equipment or processes by students studying agricultural engineering or subjects related to the application of engineering and technology to the land based sector. No award was made this year.
